About the Artist
Lynette Dawson-Summerfeldt is a largely self-taught Bonnechere Algonquin First Nations Artist. She lives, works and plays on Vancouver Island in Ucluelet BC; on the traditional territory of the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ.
Her practice stemmed from her experiences as a fishing boat Captain, a whale watching guide, naturalist, and the desire to document, share and preserve that which lies beneath the surface.
Lynette completed a Visual Arts course at Thompson Rivers University to help dispell her "imposter syndrome". She was a member of the Board of Directors at the Pacific Rim Arts Society for several years. Lynette regularly exhibits at the Orange Door Gallery in Ucluelet and is represented by Reflecting Spirit Gallery.
Lynette contributes to marine conservation and research groups, often donating her time, art and proceeds of her sales. She especially loves salmon and whales. She picks up garbage at the beach and tries to make something out of it. She also upcycles/recycles textiles.
